Even though they debuted 40years ago, their song is alive now in everywhere. 'Happy together' came to me as an OST. The turtles was started from friends and had some member changes in the history. They was called as sulf rock group. In 1967, they spent three weeks at number one on the American charts and proved to be one of the biggest hits of the years. Their reputation could be better by the song; Happy Together.

In 1984, as "The Turtles ...featuring Flo & Eddie", (together with three other groups from the 60's; Gary Puckett, Spanky & Our Gang, and The Association), they travelled across the U.S. and Canada as "The Happy Together Tour". The tour was very successful and was the standard bearer for a resurgence in the interest of 60's music. The following year, they got together with The Buckinghams, Gary Lewis, and The Grass Roots, for a 1985 version. For the eight months the tour was on the road it was consistently one of the top 10 grossing tours in the country.

Kaylan and Volman continued to appear as Flo and Eddie into the new millennium. In the Fall of 2004, the pair co-produced a new remastered collection of their hits called "Happy Together: The Very Best Of The Turtles". The band remains a staple of rock and roll oldies radio, getting over 20,000 plays a year.

Happy Together

(G. Bonner - A. They have contributed, as well, to the surf music genre. Ventures started members from 4 members (Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Base, Drum). The interesting character of this band used only some instruments without voices. Their records have been sold 90 million so far. Their song was re-made by a lot of singers in the world. One of their song, 'Shanghied' was most popular twist dance song in 60s'. Pipeline in the album "The Ventures Surfing" lead the surfing song with beach boys. The ventures was going on from 1960s to now in Japan and Europe. Their style guitar has been popular among the mania of guitar. There were some member changes by many reason, but they have kept their reputation so far. Given their tremendous cultural influence, both in the US and Japan, as well as their ranking as 6th biggest album-selling pop act of the 1960's, Ventures fans and supporters have been campaigning for the past several years to have The Ventures inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

<hold><hold>

Running scared, and out of my mind
No place is homeOn these streets I reach for the sky
With a gun in my handAnd the world in my sightsI face every day
But still you turn to look at me and say
Hold me now hold me whenWe're running round in circles once again
Hold me now hold me whenWe feel in need of comfort now and then
Hold me now hold me whenWe're turning round and burning down
Hide by day, and move on by night
Wrap me in chainsSet me free when there is no light
You can't compete with these lies and deceit
That's my evil wayBut still you dare to look at me and say
Somehow these days have turned into yearsI'm finding it hard to reach you
We can't begin to count the tears
It's killing me but still I sayDon't ever let this moment slip away
I'll never find, my peace of mind
For ever falling down these mountains
I can't climbNo words would rhyme
Were you to disappear again
You know that I never could get over it

Watching God_Civil Right_My 14th movie

Watching God_Civil Right_My 14th movie

I really enjoyed this movie. First, I could find the story of black people and I could see gorgeous Halle Berry in it. This movie is basically showing about one woman life in black society. Miss. Janie was living with her grandmother rural area and had to get married to older and richer man. Even though she can have quite nice life with him, she had a desire to be free. One day, she met Joe and moved out her life to new life with him. Joe supported her life happily without freedom. She had felt that she lived her life for husband. Joe was so ambitious that he made the first incorporated colored town in America. It is just Easton Ville for colored people. They called her Mrs. Mayor stark and Joe force her to keep dignity and obedience as a wife of Mayor. She felt like a bird in bird cage. Time passed away 20 years and the couple was in routine and the gap of communication. Mayor died and everyone sobbed in his funeral. She felt the freedom from her husband and met Tea Cake and had felt free as the first time of life. They hung out everyday with spending money and everyone worried about her life with Tea Cake. One day, they moved to some place like heaven camp which has a lot of person who want to have freedom but big hurricane screwed up their new life. Tea cake was bitten off by crazy dog. He was going to be crazy and shoot the gun each other. Unfortunately, the guy was died with sorrow of her. Even though she really loved him and found her real life by him, they could not continue on their love. At the last scene, she is asking herself. “What are you doing?” “I am watching god”.

<music>
<music>
I heard a lot of music genre in this movie. Blues, Regtime and gospel could be found by my learned ear. Ragtime had drum, trumpet and banjo in the band. It was so rhythmical that I followed the rhythm. Gospel was the scene of the ceremony of light. I heard this song a lot in the church, “Let it shine…”. Tea cake played harmonica in this movie. Background music was so challenge to me for recognizing which kind of music.

<black><black>

From 1960 to 1980, we call this period as ‘Civil Right Movement Period’. In this period,
Black and women started to realize their power together and advocate their proper right.
Racial discrimination was a hot potato among American. In this movie, I had a crucial
question about their life.

Why did they should live separated from white people?

This movie showed detail life about black people. It was so impressive to me!!!!

Memphis Belle_WW ll_ My 13th Movie

Memphis Belle_WW ll_ My 13th Movie

In the summer of 1943, a fierce battle raged in the skies of Europe.

This movie started from the scene of England on 16 May 1943. Young volunteer army was waiting for joining the war with the fear of death. They had a party before the D-day for getting rid of fear. On D-day, Memphis belle flied to German military place to drop bomb rain. They struggled with attack from German military and some colleagues were fallen down. Even though they were attacked by German, they did their job properly.

It is also typical war movie. At the end of the movie, some impressive sentence was going up the scene.

"During the WW ll, 200 thousand air crews was died in western Europe". Yes, it was a big pity to all. After WW ll, the power of the world moved to US and Soviet Union and started cold period. Interesting thing after WW ll, US was worried about spread of the communism in German and Europe, so US showed the Marshal Plan for ruined German. It made German more democratic country than before. Most of countries did not agree with this generous plan but US kept two things in mind; Spread of Communism and World peace.

This movie was also nice one for thinking about WW ll and the world.

The Thin Red Line_WW ll_my 12th movie

The Thin Red Line_WW ll_my 12th movie

We have heard about ww2 a lot in our class and our life.
Do you think you know what the war is exactly?
I think we can never know about the war, unless if we experience the war.

This movie have shown that how ww2 was going on inside. This movie is actually based on the novel by James Jones.

There were peaceful island but it was changed to the war place between US army and Japanese army. US army was in disadvantage position down the hill and they should occupy the hill against Japanese army. They struggled to conquer the hill. A lot of companies had lost their life during the war.

I could find colleague spirit between them when they were fighting against Japanese army. They had got the order from the top and just followed the order, it was dangerous for their life though. Their unintentional fighting leads the tragedy of them. Human has been so tiny thing in front of the war. WW ll has left a lot of people died and bad memory. Through WW ll, US lost a lot of valuable life of army but had got economic development by selling war material.

I have been wondering about the peace without war in the world. After next movie, I will talk about changes by WW ll in the world.

Pride of Yankees_Great Depression_My 11th Movie

Pride of Yankees_Great Depression_My 11th Movie

There were a lot of brilliant base ball player in MLB history, but there were no so hard-working player like Lou Gehrig in the history. This movie is a story about honest base ball player, Lou Gehrig in New York Yankees. In the period of Great Depression, he gave the people hope through the base ball. This movie is started from the young Lou. His mother was a strong supporter for him. She really wanted to make him engineer like his uncle Otto and Lou also tried to follow her desire. She said, “In this country, you can be anything you want.” He could join the baseball team in Columbia University. Suddenly, his mother was sick so she went to a hospital. Lou wanted her to get in private hospital but he did not have much money for it. Therefore, he signed to join a baseball team, Hartford. His father pretended to get a job as a political who can earn 25$ in a week and his mother did not know the truth. Lou was so hard-working player that he could get in the NY Yankees. Even though his mother wants him to be an engineer, she went to baseball game to see his proud son’s game. He made a lot of achievement in Yankees and he met a beautiful Chicago woman and fell in love with her. At last, he got married with her and could make a happy life. Lou was so modest that he practiced and played every time. Until the time of retirement, he had played 2130 games in MLB. It was an amazing record ever in MLB history. Unfortunately, he had got unnamed sick and had struggled to play well. This ill made him died called as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

1. Sports in Great Depression

24 Oct 1929, there was a black Thursday in stock market. US economy was fallen down and life of people went to down. In this period, baseball is a kind of hope for American. Between 1929 and 1932, import and export went to down up to 30% compared to before. This harsh period made the people jobless and quality if life was falling down. Even they were struggling to manage their life, baseball was most popular sports to enjoy for everyone.

2. Immigrant

Lou family was an immigrant from Germany. Her mother was doing like cooking, and cleaning house. His father did not have regular job. His mother tried to make him well-educated person like his uncle Otto. She did not want to make him like them. Immigrant had to be harder to get success. She said “In this country, you can be anything you want.” This sentence shows that America has been an opportunity country for immigrant. We could find immigrant family in this movie anyway.

3. Passion for education

Education is a basic step to get success in a society. In this movie, Lou’s mother brings him to Columbia University. At last, he got a chance to play for the university and was called ‘Babe Ruth in CU’. His family was an immigrant family so the passion for education was quite significant for them. As period goes, the importance of education looks more valuable.

His biography is like a sad novel because of his early death. His life has been a legend to the people. If you want to know more about his misfortune life, you can visit official website of Lou Gehrig.

http://www.lougehrig.com/about/bio.htm

(From the left) Lou's mother, Lou, Wife and Father

King Kong Classic_Great Depression_My 10th Movie

King Kong Classic_Great Depression_My 10th Movie

Everyone have been heard about King Kong before. This movie is a story about King Kong and a beautiful woman. Actually, the background of this movie is in the period of great depression. There was a beautiful woman. She was picked up by film producer in New York. At that time, she was stoling something in street shop, it means she was struggling with her life. Great depression Period was so hard time for every American. She got his suggestion to be an actress and got on the big ship. They were going to some island to take a film, that island was very undeveloped and lived some tribe. The team for film arrived at the island, the tribe were having some ceremony. They saw the beautiful girl and chased from them. She was lke a present for King Kong. The team tried to save her but most of them were killed by dinosaurs. At last, one guy who love her saved her and took her to the ship. Even though they catched King Kong and brought it to NY. However, King Kong escaped the show and tried to find the girl. King Kong was trying to save her in the island from dangerous things and loved her actually. The pity King Kong was killed by fighting plane at the top of Empire States building. I think this movie is world wide loved movie, King Kong is not a human though. I picked some characteristics up in this movie about Great Depression Period.

1. Transportation

I could see numerous transportation in this movie. First one is a yellow taxi. It was my first time to see the taxi in the movies. Tram, Steamship and airplane was also the result of Industrial Revolution. Even though these transportation made US economy booming up, Great depression made US economy dropped off. I found a lot of new transportation in this period.

2. Great Depression

In 1930s, there was a great depression in US. It made US economy and people groomy and sad.
Unemployment was up to 70% in the period. In this movie, the girl also was in hard period. She got a chance to earn the money and she got on the steamship. Great Depression leaded a lot of people to work whatever they can.

3. Pioneer Spirit

Even though pioneer period was ended already, they were going to veiled island with the mind of pioneer. They tried to take a film to ceremony and King Kong. I could feel they are so aggressive to find new one. I think it is kind of Pioneer sprit of them.

4. Skyscraper

I saw Empire state building one of the tallest building in the world before. There were a lot of tall building compared to former period. They were already developed some part in society.

5. Love
I could find two love story in this movie. First one is between the actress and the sailor. Second one is one side love from King Kong to the woman.

Jimmie Rodgers_country singer

Jimmie Rodgers_Country Singer

"The father of country music has had a profound impact on all of our lives and touched our souls with his simple but unique way with music. The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation devotes their time and effort to preserve the heritage of country music by special events throughout the year. "

I could find this sentence in the website of his foundation.
Yes! He was the first country music superstar. He has been known The Singing Brakeman and The Blue Yodeler, I did not know him at all though.

I have heard his name before, but I did not listen his song at all. After getting the CD, I could listen his song first! In my MP3, there are two songs of him; Jimmies Texas Blue, Mule Skinner Blue.

He was born in Pine Springs, Mississippi,USA but considered his hometown to be Meridian, Mississippi, and spent most of his early life from boyhood accompanying his father on rail road jobs. He eventually became a railroad brakeman, an extremely dangerous and highly skilled job.
This back ground had affected his music.

His songs, most of which he wrote himself, were typically either sentimental songs about home, family and sweethearts and his beloved railroads and railroaders, on his own hard life and happy marriage. He was also famous for unique vocal quality in his song. His voice is powerful and haunting. His sound is like no other and once heard, is never forgotten. Fundamentally, Rodgers was a white blues singer, singing traditional blues lyrics and accompanying himself on guitar and yodel, which was nothing like classic Swiss yodeling.

One of his song was selected by CNN as "Songs of the Century"; "BLUE YODEL (T FOR TEXAS)" and when the Country Music Hall of Fame was established in 1961, Rodgers was one of the first three to be inducted. He was also elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame and his song "Blue Yodel No. 9" is ranked No. 23 on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.

The 113 songs he recorded have hardly ever been out of print. His musical career lasted only six years. He died from tuberculosis in 1933 in the Taft Hotel, New York at age 35. His last recordings were made in Manhattan a week before his death.

Blue Yodel No.9

Standing on the corner I didn't mean no harm When a big policeman Grabbed me by the arm
Now, it was down in Memphis On the corner of Beale and Main He said "Now, hey big boy I'm
gonna have to know your name" Now, you can find my name On the tail of my shirt I'm a
Tennessee hustler And I never have to work But I'm telling all you rounders You best leave my women alone I'll take my .38 Special And I'll run you rounders home.

Roaring Twenties_State Fair_My 9th Movie

Roaring Twenties_State Fair_My 9th Movie

'Our state fair is a great state fair
Don’t miss it , don’t even be late'

It is the happenings during the state fair in IOWA. There was a happy family and they were going to annual state fair. The father wanted to win the prize in Pig competition and the mother wanted it in cooking competition. One sister and brother had a problem before the fair. The sister did not want to marry the rich guy in her town and the brother had some problem his lover. In the state fair, they were meeting lover coincidentally. Even though they had their own job, they had been fallen in love each other. The sister was meeting the newspaperman and the brother was meeting the singer. They had a great time in the fair. Their father also got the prize they had wanted for a long time. They were so happy in the fair. However, they should be separated in each way again at the last day. They were coming back with sadness of breaking up. At the last scene of movie, they were coming together again and finishing with happy ending. This movie shows stereo type of 1920s people and life. I have got some characteristics in this movie.

1. Appearance of Women

In this period, women could start to vote, so activities for women were increasing. The State fair also had many events for women like cooking competition. Women seemed more confident than before through fashion as well.

2. No Black people

Even thought 1920s had release of slavery, there were no black people in this movie. White dominated society was brought to give the right to vote for the black.

3. Farm(Settlement)

They were settled in one town and made a farm for living. They did not move frequently and stayed one place. That’s why they can be farmer as a job.

4. loyalty for their states

After settlement, they were living one place and could have loyalty for their States. They loved their States and nature. In this movie, I could see a lot of people who were singing about their lovely States. It might be going to patriotism as well about US.

5. Food (Hamburgers and Popcorns)

It was the first time to see the people who were eating modern foods just like a hamburger and Popcorns. Roaring twenties was the change period to change to the modern culture. In the State fair, there were a lot of modern things such as roller coaster,

6. Family

This family in the movie looks so happy. Even though, US take value on individualism, family is so important factor for them. Making family through marriage and keeping family with happiness looks quite significant for them.

7. Development of Machines

I could find more cars than before age. Through Industrial age, the development of machine was going on and I could see some modern machine such as car and truck. In addition to, I could see the desire of modern machine in the farm. The development had changed not only life but also thought in that period.

My Third Industrial Period_Tom Horn_My Eight Movie

My Third Industrial Period_Tom Horn_My Eight Movie

This movie is about an outstanding cowboy in 1901. His name was Tom Horn. He was an Indian tracker from the West. He had got achievement in Apache war so he got a propose from Cattle company organization to keep the safe. He called himself ‘Stock Detector’. In that period, the bad guys had chased cows and sold them, even though the cows were not theirs. The background of this movie is in Wyoming states. He had fallen in love with a teacher from Hawaii. Even though he had kept the safe of their cattle company, he was got in trap and went to jail. He did not kill the boy but he was sentenced by the court a death penalty. He died in 1903 in front of people. He was a hero and good person, but the conspiracy pushed him to the death. It was quite a pity. Early 1900s, we can call this period ‘Industrial Age’. I have picked some characteristics up in this period, especially in this movie.

1. Cowboy(Guns & Clothes)

This period also has been seen cowboys in the movie. They wore like cowboy who has a hat and a gun. In this movie, rifle is more common than short gun. Especially, Tom Horn was a best shooter with rifle even though it is hard to deal with. The rifle was stronger than short gun. They were with the horse like former period. However, some of people are changing their costume more formal not like cowboy. This period looked like the bridge to new costume (Formal Suit).

2. Conspiracy

The cattle organization hired Tom Horn as a security guard, but the organization pushed him in conspiracy secretly. He died at last in spite of innocent.

3. Love

Even though cowboy is a masculine character, he fell in love with the woman. He had a happy time with her, but he could not last that relationship no longer.

4. Transportation

In that period, train is a main transportation with horses. Cowboys and sheriffs dealt with horses in the movie.

5. Court

The court was not well-organized like modern court. They did not have formal place for court. The process of justice did not look elaborate. They needed to change court system.

6. Immigrants

I could fine some Chinese in this movie. From late 1890s, there are a lot of immigrants from other countries such as China. It is hard to explain without immigrant history in American history. It was the first movie to see immigrant in it. I think I can see more immigrants from next period.

My Second Industrial Period Movie_Ty Cobb_My Seventh movie

My Second Industrial Period Movie_Ty Cobb_My Seventh movie

Have you heard about Ty Cobb who is the greatest baseball player of all time?

I thought the greatest baseball player in MLB has been Ruth of all time.

However, Cobb is laughing about Ruth and he says he is the best player in the history in this movie.

The 1910s was showing a little bit in this movie but it was worth it, because this movie was so impressive that I could not stop the movie from the first to the end.

This movie mostly shows the period of retired Cobb who wants to leave extremely heroic biography in early 1960. He had got the greatest achievement in MLB history. His batting average was 0.3664 and it has been the best record ever in MLB. He had been in Detroit Tiger and he changed his team to Philadelphia at his 41 years old.

He was famous for brutal and aggressive player and has changed a lot of things on MLB.
Even though he is the greatest player ever in the history, he had a bad history on family.
The tragedy history about his family makes him pessimistic His father was killed by the people who had a love affair with his mother and his children had a bad memory about him so do not want to meet him at all. He was so lonely, even though he was a rich guy. His character pushed a lot of people from him, he did not have friend. At that time, the writer of biography (Stumpy) came to him and had a journey with him to the celebration for Ty Cobb. He was admired person even from the baseball player. The writer was watching him beside and recognized real things about him a pity elder.

At last, he was died in a Emory hospital in 1961 and he was thinking that which version he would show to the world. One version was about heroic baseball player as we had known. Another one was about a real Ty Cobb such a pity elder. The hope which Cobb had was to show first version to the world especially to the children that can have the hero, but the writer(Stumpy) did not want to do that.

Do you want to know which version he publishes at last?
You had better watch this movie. You can see not only a base ball hero but also a pity elder in this movie.

The characteristics will be shown next movie, this movie was only concentrated on retired Cobb so that I could not find special characters in this movie.

Industrial Age_8 Men Out_The Sixth Movie

Industrial Age_8 Men Out_The Sixth Movie
I do not know start year of Industrial age exactly.

My movie is starting from 1919 Cicago.
This movie is about Black Sox scandal of 1919 in which the White Sox players deliberately
lost the World Series. Black Sox had got great games before the World Series but they were
controlled by Gamblers and some players betrayed the concern of people.

There were a lot of characters in this movie such as newspaper men, gambler, the owner of team, and players. Every character was messed up in this movie. It is just showing of the
people related to baseball, but we can see the characters of this period.

I think that I got wrong CD because the background of this movie is 1919~1925.
However, I found a lot of differences between 'Western expansion' and 'Industrial Age'.
Even though I am not sure this movie is the industrial period, I picked some differences
compared before(western expansion).

1. Chage of Costume

In western expansion period, most of guys were wearing like cowboys and most of girls
was wearing blooming skirt with fancy race. However, in this movie, guys are wearing
formal suit with hat and necktie and girl's costume looks lighter and more modern than before.
I do not know what happen on them, but they looked more modern than before especially in
fashion.

2. Not organized organization.

I found some messed up baseball game and court. For example, the owner of Sox has
tremendous power to deal with the players. It made the player to cooperate with gamblers.
The court was not organized well, it looked like loose place. I think 1920s' is the period of
changing and organizing modern US society.

3. Sports and wealthy people.

There was no sports like baseball before. Many people can be wealthier than before and
they can have time to enjoy sports at the same time. Booming of sports is follwed by wealthy
of people. I found some wealthy people who deals with baseball. I am not sure but I thinks
being wealthy is from the result of World War 1,

4. Liquor and Cigarette

They are usually drinking with cigarette in the bar. This characteristic have been happened
before, but it seems deeper than before.

5. Male dominated society

Most of important people is the male and the women is just showed the helper of the male
such as wife are cheering and counselor. Women could not have the right of vote yet and
they looked like powerless character.

Western expansion_She wore a yellow ribbon_The fifth movie

Western expansion_She wore a yellow ribbon_The fifth movie

There is a brave and clever commander who leaves a few days of his life in the army. He leads the army to go to west. This movies background is the period of western expansion. In this period, there are some conflicts with native Indian tribes. United States got rid of a lot of native Indians’ territories. It was a big shame on American history. However, the sprit of pioneer is important value in this period. I picked some interesting things in this movie.

<native><native>1. Native Indian vs United State

They were fighting each other to keep their way. Native Indian want to live their place but US troops want to go further to west. There were some connections between native Indian and American in some way. Some people were selling the rifles to them and some people were friend of them. The relationship between them is hard to say in a word. In the movie, salt and pipe meant welcoming in native Indian community.

<transportation><transportation>2. Transportation

After the civil war, America made many railroad and can go to the west faster than before. However, this movie just shows horse, wagon and stage coach. It is quite slow one. Actually, railroad made western expansion faster than before the civil war.

<chivalry><chivalry>3. Chivalry in military

I can find many scenes that the army is trying to keep the safe of women. Chivalry is quite important factor to keep army’s dignity. It means that woman is weak people to be protected at the same time.

Reply about the TRIBE; The Gros Ventre

I would like to share this information with other classamates.

I have contacted to the tribe and a person who have blog about the tribe.

Few days ago, I got a reply from the blog person.

His name is Everall Fox and he has made the blog for his project.

He gave me a lot of information and the answer of my stupid questions.

I will show the mails from him..^^
------------------------------------------

Joon,

I will try to answer your questions as best as I can.

1) Tribal Dance and Foods

a) Tribal Dances: Most of the dances of the Gros Ventre were done as part of a ceremony or had religious signifigance. Examples of these were the Sun Dance and the Fool Dance. There were social dances as well. Today, the Sun Dance is still an important part of the spiritual practice of many Gros Ventres. The social dances all take place at Pow Wow's. These are celebrations held throughout the year by tribes all over the United States. There are several dance styles that are performed at each gathering. Check out. www.powwows.com for more information

b) Foods: The traditional foods of the Gros Ventre people were like most Plains tribes; meat from buffalo, elk, deer and other animals. Wild vegetables and berries were also consumed. For portability, the Gros Ventre prepared pemmican. They pounded meat with a rock and mixed it with fat and berries. This was then dried in the sun and stored for later use. This was a good source of food when game was scarce, They also used organ and hide pots to prepare soups over a fire. With the arrival of whites into North America, trade began to develop. The use of metal pots took the place of organ or hide pots to cook food. As they were placed on reservations and provided rations, the foods changed as well. They began using the flour, sugar and lard provided by the government to prepare "fry bread". Today, fry bread is considered a traditional food among many tribes. Also, a sweet soup made from berries such as June berries or blue berries is made. Soups containing meat, potatoes, pasta and mixed vegetables are also prepared as traditional foods. Soup made from dried meat is another traditional dish, it is boiled with potatoes, onions and salt pork. Most Gros Ventres eat what other Americans eat, meat, vegetables, fruit and bread. Also, like other Americans, we eat food that is not good for us, such as hamburgers, french fried potatoes, pizza, etc.

2) What is the relationship between Fort Belknap and the Gros Ventre?

The Fort Belknap Indian Reservation was established in 1887 for the Gros Ventre and Assiniboine tribes. The Congress of the United States approved a treaty between the US and the Gros Ventre, Assiniboine and Blackfeet tribes. The lands that the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation was given to the Gros Ventre and Assininboine tribes in exchange for ceding of their historical lands in Northern Montana. The Fort Belknap Community Council is made up of representatives from both tribes. They govern the reservation and make decisions on behalf of the the members of both tribes. The US Government has a special relationship with the governing entity of both tribes. This entity is officially known as the Fort Belknap Indian Community, which consists of the two tribes, the Gros Ventre and Assiniboine. My website, www.geocities.com/aaninin has more info for you to read.

3) How do they manage their life now?

Most Gros Ventres live on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. They live primarily in the town of Hays, as well as the communities of Fort Belknap Agency and Dodson. There are many that live off the reservation as well. Life on the reservation is a mix. Those that are employed are able to take care of themselves and their families and live somewhat comfortably. Those that do not have jobs have a much harder time. The unemployment rate ranges 65% to 75%. The government provides some assistance by providing housing, health care and some assistance to help people feed themselves and their families. However, the housing is substandard, the health care is not the best and the aid for families is not enough to adequalty provide for them. The education system is the same as the rest of the State of Montana. However, most schools, including those on the Fort Belknap Reservation have low test scores and achievement. The schools have a hard time finding qualified teachers to work in the isolated areas of Montana. They lack money to adequatly provide for the needs of the schools. For those that have found employment and are educated, they live very much like other Americans. They are able to live in the dominant culture, while still maintaining their own culture and ties to the tribe.

I hope that helps you somewhat. Thanks for visiting the website

-------------------------------------------------
Joon,

Glad I was able to help. On the Casino question. The Gros Ventre and Assiniboine tribes of the Ft. Belknap Reservation do not operate a Casino. They do have a bingo hall, but it is small, and no gaming machines are operated there. Each tribe in the State of Montana have to have an agreement with the State to operated a gaming operation. Ft. Belknap does not have an agreement with the State. A Casino in the Ft. John goes to north to get a job in cousin’s newspaper company and he gets a job in there; war correspondent. He can see a lot of war places in his eyes and draws pictures about the scene. He has lived in south part but he doesn’t agree slavery. He doesn’t want to fight with any side, so his family calls him a traitor.

He just doesn’t want to fight, but he is called a traitor by his family. What makes this tragedy? Individual can not control the war whether they want to get in or not. In the civil war, there are a lot of people who want to fight for their territory.

Most tragic things in this war is that they have been neighborhood and family.

After the war, they loss a lot of things such as a lover, brother and house.

Finally, south part surrenders to the north part and the peace comes again to their life.

John marries and Jonas gets higher position, but they have a sorrow in their mind.

War has changes a lot of things in human history including 'The Civil War'.

Lincoln was assassinated by J. Booth in 1865.

US economic had increased after the war because they could have much railroad.

There are a few of story about the reason of the civil war.

Some people pointed that economic gap between north and south made the war.

Some people pointed that different point of view about slavery made the war.

However, the war made a lot of pain and was one of the factor to develop US economy

at the same time.

By this movie, I though a lot about the civil war and how it had made changes in US.

Memphis Slim_Blues Musician

Memphis Slim_Blues Musician

When I got the musician list from Azan, I didn’t know who they are.

However, I found some interesting name in it, that was ‘Memphis Slim’.

The reason why I was interested in that name is ‘Slim’ is a famous club in RCA. I usually go to Club with my friends to dance..^^

Anyway, I picked up the musician and found some information about him.
Blues is fundamental music of American modern music. He is one of famous Blues musician.

I am going to give some more information about him.
It is from 'www.mmguide.musicmatch.com/ artist/artist.cgi?ARTISTID=354016 '

An amazingly prolific artist who brought a brisk air of urban sophistication to his frequently stunning presentation, John "Peter" Chatman -- better known as Memphis Slim -- assuredly ranks with the greatest blues pianists of all time. He was smart enough to take Big Bill Broonzy's early advice about developing a style to call his own to heart, instead of imitating that of his idol, Roosevelt Sykes. Soon enough, other 88s pounders were copying Slim rather than the other way around; his thundering ivories attack set him apart from most of his contemporaries, while his deeply burnished voice possessed a commanding authority. As befits his stage name, John "Peter" Chatman was born and raised in Memphis; a great place to commit to a career as a bluesman. Sometime in the late '30s, he resettled in Chicago and began recording as a leader in 1939 for OKeh, then switched over to Bluebird the next year. Around the same time, Slim joined forces with Broonzy, then the dominant force on the local blues scene. After serving as Broonzy's invaluable accompanist for a few years, Slim emerged as his own man in 1944.

After the close of World War II, Slim joined Hy-Tone Records, cutting eight tracks that were later picked up by King. Lee Egalnick's Miracle label reeled in the pianist in 1947; backed by his jumping band, the House Rockers (its members usually included saxists Alex Atkins and Ernest Cotton), Slim recorded his classic "Lend Me Your Love" and "Rockin' the House." The next year brought the landmark "Nobody Loves Me" (better known via subsequent covers by Lowell Fulson, Joe Williams, and B.B. King as "Everyday I Have the Blues") and the heartbroken "Messin' Around (With the Blues)." The pianist kept on label-hopping, moving from Miracle to Peacock to Premium (where he waxed the first version of his uncommonly wise down-tempo blues "Mother Earth") to Chess to Mercury before staying put at Chicago's United Records from 1952 to 1954. This was a particularly fertile period for the pianist; he recruited his first permanent guitarist, the estimable Matt Murphy, who added some serious fret fire to "The Come Back," "Sassy Mae," and "Memphis Slim U.S.A." Before the decade was through, the pianist landed at Vee-Jay Records, where he cut definitive versions of his best-known songs with Murphy and a stellar combo in gorgeously sympathetic support (Murphy was nothing short of spectacular throughout).

Slim exhibited his perpetually independent mindset by leaving the country for good in 1962. A tour of Europe in partnership with bassist Willie Dixon a couple of years earlier had so intrigued the pianist that he permanently moved to Paris, where recording and touring possibilities seemed limitless and the veteran pianist was treated with the respect too often denied even African-American blues stars at home back then. He remained there until his 1988 death, enjoying his stature as expatriate blues royalty. ~ Bill Dahl, All Music Guide

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1966)

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly_Civil war_The third movie

Do you know the stereo type of gun man?

We can find it in this movie.

The guy is wearing a clock ,having a gun in his belt and cigar in his mouth.

His mane is Blondie(Clint Eastwood).

There are three types of charter in this movie.

First one is 'The good' ; Blondie, second one is 'The bad' ; Lee Van Cleef, third one is The ugly';

He is the person who are following the prize money. He is working with Puco,
because Puco is a prized person. He is a good shooting man and has a fine brain.

Second. Lee

He is baddest character among three persons. He know that puco know whrere the money is.
That's why he follows them. At the last, he find them but he couldn't be winner like other bad characters in film.

Third . Puco
He is a mexican and a bad character but I saw some personal factor in the movie.
He played many tricks to blondie, but everytime he managed to pass that..^^
At the last scene, blondie left him alone. I don't know he saves his life or not, but maybe,he
can overcome that.

Actually, it is not about civil war. This movie's background is just civil war period. That's because I don't find many clues about the war. One thing I found in the movie is that blue is for
north and gray is for south part.

My next movie ajarn gave is Blue & Gray. I can know why he gave me that DVD!!

Let's see real civil war history!!

Do You Remember 'The Alamo' ?

The Alamo_Natinal Buiding_Second Movie

This movie is about the war of Alamo in 1836.

It shows that how american can get a Texas by theirselves.

Yes, there was much sacrifice to get it, this movie shows their resistance
against Mexican army.

At the first time, Sam houston and some of leaders decided
that they gave up the Alamo.
However, some of voluteer army(around 190 people) wanted to keep their position
for saving the Alamo.

In 23 Feb 1836, Mexican army which leader was 'General Ropez' started to push
them up. They had more army than the others. It looked like the war between
elepants and ants. Everyone already knew that they would lose against mexican army.

However, they were willing to preserve their place 'The Alamo'. It made them to be together.

In American history, this war have been remembered as a honorable war to all americans.
That's because it is the symbol of freedom and patriotism to their country.

America has 52 states in it and each state has their own history. In Texas history,
there was the alamo which was purchased from Texas in 1883.

Why did they struggle to do preserve it?

I think it is the point of this movie.
It can be said ; patriotism or freedom.

That's why american history have remembered it.

From this DVD, it is the real american history of freedom.

Yes, I have seen many american movie, but it was just for modern society actually.
The movie prof have given me is about old history in america which was not used to.

These movies makes me like reading a history book and I feel like in the american history.

Come on, next movie..^^

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://betheonetochange.blogspot.com/2006/06/do-you-remember-alamo.html' title='Do You Remember 'The Alamo'

'Who was the real owner of America?'

There was no American at the first time.

The people who be called 'American' was from British.

This movie(Path Finder) made me thinking one more time about
'The origin of America'.

In this movie, we can see the powerless Indians between French and British.

Through the character of 'Pathfinder', I was able to feel that
he was worried about their ground .

In my opinion, when I learned about american history,
I read the history book in the western point of view.
That's why I thought that there was no the real owner of that place.

The real owner and the former owner was the Indian(Native tribes).

When we learn a history about something,
we should have neutral point of view.
In that reason, this movie inspired me that
I should have more neutral aspect of 'the origin of America'.

It's true that America is the history of 'Freedom.

However before that, there was the history of 'Invasion'.

In the last part of the movie, pathfinder and
his step father said that they are going to go to kentucky.
It means that they are trying to find new peaceful place,
but everyone knows the end of road.

I saw the fighting between French and British in this movie.

On the other hand, I was able to see the feeble Indians as well at the same time.

This movie showed me another point of view about the origin of America.

I am looking forward to next steps(movies).

Who Am I ?

Hello!
